چکیده
Abstract. The physical interactions between ice sheets and their surroundings are major factors in determining the state of climate system, yet many current Earth system models omit them entirely or approximate a heavily parameterised manner. In this work we have improved snow sheet surface physics FAMOUS model, with aim improving representation polar implementing bidirectional coupling to Glimmer dynamic model using water energy fluxes calculated by FAMOUS. both low-resolution, computationally affordable used for multi-millennial simulations. A system of conservative regridding for ice–atmosphere coupling in a General Circulation Model (GCM)
The method of elevation classes, in which the ice surface model is run at multiple elevations within each grid cell, has proven to be a useful way for a low-resolution atmosphere inside a general circulation model (GCM) to produce high-resolution downscaled surface mass balance fields for use in one-way studies coupling atmospheres and ice flow models. Past uses of elevation classes have failed...
متن کاملCoupling Planet Simulator Mars, a general circulation model of the Martian atmosphere, to the ice sheet model SICOPOLIS
A general circulation model of the Martian Atmosphere is coupled with a 3-dimensional polythermal ice-sheet model of the polar ice caps. With this combination a series of experiments is carried out to investigate the impact of long-term obliquity change on the Martian north polar ice cap (NPC). The behaviour of the NPC is tested under obliquities of y 1⁄4 15 , 25 and 35 . With increasing obliqu...

[1] We present the first comprehensive general circulation model study of water ice condensation and cloud formation in the Martian atmosphere. We focus on the effects of condensation in limiting the vertical distribution and transport of water and on the importance of condensation for the generation of the observed Martian water cycle. We do not treat cloud ice radiative effects, ice sedimenta...
متن کاملThe Glimmer community ice sheet model
[1] We present a detailed description of the Glimmer ice sheet model, comprising the physics represented in the model and the numerical techniques used. Established methods are combined with good software design to yield an adaptable and widely applicable model. A flexible framework for coupling Glimmer to global climate forcing is also described. Testing and benchmarking is of crucial importan...
متن کاملApplying Sparse Matrix Solvers to a Glacial Ice Sheet Model
More recent models have attempted to use better physics to describe ice velocities in regions where velocities vary significantly over short distances. These models use a 3-dimensional, rectangular FEM grid. While the 2-dimensional model is used for an entire ice sheet, the 3-dimensional model is used over a limited area of interest with a smaller distance between grid points. Output of the 2-d...
